Probiotic products containing 'friendly' bacteria are becoming widely accepted by consumers in many European countries, claiming benefits for gut health and improved immune system. Nature’s Logic dry foods and treats contain 5 probiotic strains and guarantee a higher colony forming unit of these direct fed microbials than any food sold.
Some recent studies have been done on the benefits of probiotics in a diet.
Irish scientists from University College Cork report that a combination of different probiotics strains may reduce salmonella food poisoning in pigs. The benefits for gut health have been reported to be due to the probiotic bacteria adhering to the walls of the intestine, which inhibits the ability of the pathogenic Salmonella to stick and colonise the gut, thereby reducing the infection.

Another study back in 2000, suggested that probiotics may prevent some instances of colon cancer. Their conclusion after reviewing 10 years worth of animal studies is that it appears that probiotics with or without prebiotics have an inhibitory effect on the development of aberrant crypts (precancerous lesions) and tumors in animal models.
